- Chronic: dependence, tolerance, multi-organ damage - liver, pancreas, CNS, cardiovascular, malignancy risk
- Overdose is rarely fatal from alcohol alone at typical binge levels, but combination with other CNS depressants (benzodiazepines, opioids) is dangerous
