- Severe constipation with abdominal distension/vomiting - possible obstruction, faecal impaction with overflow diarrhoea
- Autonomic dysfunction with severe constipation - consider antimuscarinic toxicity/ileus
- Chronic opioid use presenting with acute abdomen - opioid-induced bowel dysfunction can mimic obstruction
