  • Corticosteroids are used as an adjunct in inoperable malignant bowel obstruction to reduce peritumoural/mesenteric oedema, potentially relieving partial obstruction and improving symptoms without surgery
  • Malignant bowel obstruction most commonly complicates advanced ovarian and colorectal cancer, and surgery is often not appropriate given diffuse peritoneal disease, poor performance status, or multiple obstruction levels
