Cardiac conditions
Framing
- Cardiac disease in older adults presents with the same core pathologies as in younger patients (atrial fibrillation, heart failure, ischaemic heart disease) but with age-specific modifiers - atypical presentation, higher multimorbidity/polypharmacy burden, and altered risk-benefit calculus for invasive or anticoagulant treatment
- Frailty and comorbidity, more than chronological age alone, should guide how aggressively cardiac disease is investigated and treated in this population
