Haematological malignancies - non-Hodgkin lymphoma
Framing
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a heterogeneous group of B- and T-cell lymphoid malignancies, clinically divided into indolent (slow-growing, often incurable but compatible with long survival) and aggressive (rapidly growing, potentially curable with intensive chemoimmunotherapy) subtypes - this distinction, more than the specific histological subtype, drives the urgency and intent of treatment
- Diagnosis rests on lymph node or tissue biopsy with immunophenotyping, given the substantial overlap in clinical presentation (lymphadenopathy, B symptoms) across subtypes with very different behaviour and treatment
