  • Serum urate is central to the diagnosis and, particularly, the long-term management of gout - used both to support the diagnosis in the acute setting and, more importantly, as a treatment target for urate-lowering therapy
  • Gout is the most common inflammatory arthritis overall, and serum urate management (rather than acute flare treatment alone) is the key determinant of long-term disease control
