- Drug-induced neutropenia arises through either predictable, dose-dependent bone marrow suppression (most cytotoxic chemotherapy) or unpredictable, idiosyncratic immune-mediated destruction (certain non-chemotherapy drugs, e.g. clozapine, some antithyroid drugs, some antibiotics) - the distinction matters since idiosyncratic neutropenia can occur even at standard therapeutic doses without warning
