Maturity-onset diabetes of the young (MODY) - gene subtypes and phenotypes
Core concept
| Gene | Subtype | Phenotype |
|---|---|---|
| HNF1A | MODY 3 | Most common MODY; progressive beta-cell failure; sensitive to sulfonylureas; low renal glucose threshold (glycosuria at lower BSL) |
| GCK | MODY 2 | Mild, stable, non-progressive fasting hyperglycaemia from birth - often needs no treatment |
| HNF4A | MODY 1 | Similar to HNF1A, sulfonylurea-sensitive; associated with macrosomia and neonatal hypoglycaemia |
| HNF1B | MODY 5 | Diabetes + renal cysts/dysplasia, genital tract abnormalities |
