Seronegative spondyloarthropathies
Framing
- Seronegative spondyloarthropathies share HLA-B27 association, axial and/or peripheral joint inflammation, enthesitis, and a characteristic absence of rheumatoid factor - distinguishing them serologically and clinically from rheumatoid arthritis despite overlapping inflammatory joint symptoms
- Each subtype has a distinct associated systemic trigger or comorbidity (psoriasis, inflammatory bowel disease, preceding gastrointestinal/genitourinary infection for reactive arthritis) that should be actively sought in the history, since treating the associated condition can be part of effective disease management
